Dwarves in the Dark

This is for those who have read The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis.  This comes from one of the saddest scenes in the whole series.  Some false Aslan had arrived and made the Narnians live as slaves and not as free Narnians.  In the end when the true Narnians finally take action, they don't side with them.  They say they are not going to be taken in.  To which Aslan finally comes and says, "They're so afraid of being taken in that they won't be taken out."

Here, the dwarves are finally in the new Narnia, but they still think they are in the dark shed that was used to house the false Aslan.  The real Aslan throws a feast at them, and they think they are eating dirt in a dark cabin.  They're so afraid of being taken in that they won't be taken out.  Therefore, we Narnians have no choice but to leave them in their dark misery that isn't really there because they think that's the truth.

I feel like I deal with stubborn Dwarves.  I do all I can to love them and explain to them that the dark shed is over with and you can believe the truth.  But after being deceived so long, they simply will not believe in the true Aslan for fear of being deceived, so they remain deceived and damned to spend eternity in a cold dark shed eating dirt.

Therefore, I can't let them drag me down.  I must move further up and further in to people who love me, who know the real Jesus, and who won't remain stuck in the dark.

  1. Part of their problem was "the dwarfs are for the dwarfs." They sided with the witch when she was in power in Narnia, but then they switched sides after the witch was defeated. They always sided with what was popular or convenient. I think C.S. Lewis described postmodern people perfectly with those dwarfs many years before there was a such thing as a postmodern.
